Kuzuko Game Lodge

Jan. 5, 2014

Another big driving day.  We got up early and started our longest drive yet, about 7 hours to Kuzuko Game Lodge which is located at the top of the Addo Elephant Park.  It was mostly highway driving but the last 60 km were on secondary highways that were really dirt tracks that led into the middle of nowhere.  Literally, no signs of civilization anywhere, except for a few abandoned farmhouses. We were praying that the directions we were given were correct and that our Game Lodge was out there somewhere.  Our little Volkswagon Polo wasn't very happy about it either, but we eventually made it.  Little did we know that those were the "good" roads that took us to the main gates of the lodge.  To get to the main lodge, we had to be driven in by the 4 wheel drive safari Jeeps, but by this point, we were just as happy to let someone else do the driving for a while.

But it was all worth it.  Look at these pictures of the resort.

Our home at Kuzuko.

Suzie and the kids on our balcony that overlooked the valley and the water hole.

The view from the water hole looking up at the lodge.  When we arrived, there was an elephant at the water hole, but then we didn't see any other animals there because we had quite a bit of rain during our stay.  In fact, we traded in our first safari for massages at the wellness centre because it was pouring rain.  The massages felt really good after the long car ride, but didn't compare to the therapists at LMTC.

A pool with a view.
It doesn't get much better than this. Absolutely breathtaking!
And drinks served poolside too!

The main dining hall.
All meals were included at this Lodge, and in true South African style,
they were delicious and plentiful.

Blue-headed lizard.
These little guys were running all over the place when the sun was out.
